Every day we find more and more small businesses closing or at the least down sizing in employees. When you think of American business in history we didn't start with large company's, it all started with small businesses. This economic depression did not just happen but was happening over time, slowly declining but not enough to notice until it was to late. The president and congress are taking measures in which they believe will boost the economy and shock it back to life. While disputes are going through out the entire country on how the economy should be stabilized it is still a fact that no matter what business whether it be small or big the economy is taking an effect on both.
I was in my office at Storm Beer Inc on a early Saturday morning with Annie Social having to make some hard decisions. I had already drunk a six pack and Annie was almost done with a pack of cigarette and was wondering if I should start another one. Well that isn't the hard decision I was talking about but it was hard. The decision I was talking about was having to decide on which employees I would have to terminate due to this economic down fall we are in. The business is thriving but still not enough to keep everyone. I came from a hard working family and I am a hard working man my self and having to terminate anyone who is down on the line working hard for their money is beyond me. I have enlisted Annie's help so that we can get back get focused on my match. So if I didn't terminate any of them that meant I have to terminate in my upper management. The majority of management was here when I took over the business.
My assistant Krista walked in the room and informed Annie and myself that every one had gathered in the meeting room and was ready for the daily meeting. I'm not normally present and they knew for me being here that it was something important. After Krista walked back out of the room Annie turned to me and gave me a look that told me to hurry up. I don't know how women do it but they don't have to say a word to tell a man what they want or need, all they have to do is look at you and you automatically know what to do. I popped another beer and chugged it down then threw it in the trash can under the desk. I had to get rid of two people from upper management to keep pay roll in order. This wasn't going to be easy, it never is telling some one that they have to leave the company after making it so far.

We need to hurry up and decide on who is going to go. I am getting tired and hungry. And you promised me lunch after we were done here. And I know the perfect place to go. I have been having a craving for hot wings and there is this little place not far from here where we can get all you can eat wings for a decent price. Uh oh, I see that smile on your face, you just got an idea in your head. I know you well enough to know that when you smile it can't mean any thing good for any one involved especially in this situation where some one is about to get fired. So are you going to tell me what's up or do I have guess what is going on in that twisted mind of yours?

You know me all to well Annie and we haven't known each other all that long. I do have an idea. You gave it to me when you were talking about being hungry and wanting to eat wings. I mean I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I have been trying to about this the wrong way all day long. I was trying to be professional and do things the proper way, but Hell that isn't me, never has been. Come on and follow me, I know exactly how we are going to decide who is going and who is staying and it should be fun for every one involved, that is until it sets in that they have been fired that is. I'm a freaking genius. I should have thought of this before.
Annie and I walked down the hall way to the office of eight eager employees waiting to hear what I have to say. Upon walking in to the room you could tell that every one was on edge and up tight. Every one was sitting up straight in their chairs and the room was silent, it almost looked like a painting as everyone had their note pads and pens in almost perfect order in front of them on the table. The tension in the room did not ease as they saw Annie and I walk in. Annie and I walked around to the head of the table and I sat my beer down as I looked over everyone in the room with a smug smile on my face.

Ok, listen up and listen good because I'm only going to say this once. You all know that I have been here all morning working on making some hard decisions. I have good news and bad news for everyone, it seems that the business is thriving in this declining economy, though not enough to keep every one here on our pay roll. After some long though I was deciding what was best for our company, and my decision is that there are eight people in this room, and when today is done there will only be six. Now you can consider this good news or not with what I'm about to say, I could not determine which of you should go believing that all of you have been good to the company. So I had to come up with an alternative way to decide which of you will be leaving today. Ms. Social here beside me helped to come up with the idea. With out further a due, we will be playing beer pong for your jobs. It's simple rules, there will be teams of two. The two teams to win in the first round will keep their jobs and get the rest of the day off. The two teams who lose will go on to face one another in one more match and the losers of that match will be the ones who lose their job. So I suggest you pick your partners wisely and above all have fun.
The games began and it didn't seem like any one grew less tense even with such a fun game about to be played. The first two games seemed to take forever every one being cautious about their throws. As drinks began to be devoured though the room seemed like it was lightening up a bit. Every one began to forget why they were even playing in the first place. After the first two games had been played then it grew a little more tense again but with all the alcohol being consumed it was hard to keep a straight face. The final two teams began to play and the game lasted what seemed was hours but was only about thirty minutes. When all was said and done the two who lost got a six pack and their walking papers and had to leave. In the mean time Annie dragged me out of the office and made me take her down town to get the wings. We laughed and and talked enjoying the rest of our day.
